Is there any way to set up email addresses in e-smith that contain
non-alphanumeric characters? We want to migrate our current e-mail
server to an e-smith server, but our naming convention is
john.doe.1@prcc.cc.ms.us. We have approximately 3000 addresses
following this form and do not want to change them. Any suggestions
are appreciated. Thank you.

Is is just email addresses you want to migrate, or user account names as well? For email addresses, you can set them up using the email alias add-on RPM (for the e-smith 4.0 beta series) to be found at http://e-smith.gormand.com.au/4.0-preview/. If it is user account names, then you would need to customise the e-smith code to change the accepted patterns for account names. Have a look at the documentation at http://www.e-smith.org/, and ask for advice on the developer mailing list. You might also get some advice on how to do a bulk addition of user accounts - I wouldn't like to sit at the web interface keying in the details for 3000 accounts if I could avoid it.
