I have published some java script to my e-smith 4.1 server and it won't run the script. is there something i need to do on the server. also i need to know what the default port is so i can access my server from my home

Java or Javascript? The two are completely different.

JavaScript is a client-side scripting language. It has nothing to do with your e-smith/Apache server, hence no modifications are neccessary...
