I have SME 5.5, with a few mods (Jukebox, Gallery, phpBB, a few admin mods)~ and would like to use an old 2x2x6 CD-R/W as a backup device, for my general config, and my I-Bay(s). The total data is only about 1.5Gb and doesn't change much, if at all.
I would like to backup the whole lot onto CD-R(W), so that in the event of a failure, I could re-install 5.5, the restore from back-up.
Is this possible?

Yeah, its possible see the following link:
http://cd-utils.sourceforge.net/
This compresses i-bays/config into a tgz file and copies to a cdr or blank
cdrw. You can schedule backups etc. Before you install make sure you have
the following installed: mkisofs and cdrecord.
If need be the file can be read using pkzip to extract individual files as well

I compiled an RPM for this, its exactly the same. It is located here
http://www.mcnicoll.ca/e-smith/cdBackup/
This RPM assumes that you can SUCCESSFULLY create a cdr. I have info located there.
When I get around to it (and learn how) I will post it to the sourceforge site.
