Title: remote e-mail retrieval
Post by: mike mattos on January 15, 2003, 06:01:44 PM
I set up an esmith account for a new user using a name  ( newguy@virtualdomain.com) on a working virtual domain. I am able to send mail TO it, and I can retrieve mail locally for the account.  What I cannot do is retieve mail remotely.  ( which was the whole idea of hosting! )

The remote site email client (Pegasus) returns immediately with no errors, so I assume it connect to my esmith and had no errors, so I suspect a permission problem, but where?

One difference between the accounts, my own has remote shell access, newguy of course does not.

Thanks in advvance

Mike

Hello Mike,

the first question:

do you have set on the server manager page
     - Other e-mail setting

     - POP and IMAP server access on PUBLIC

I think you have don't do that so it stands on PRIVATE (the standard) and then only local client's can acces to the mail (IMAP/POP3).

Check this in the server manager and it works

Good luck

Johan

it was public, but I figured it out!  I'm using a dynamic dns, and it apparently I managed DNS to install email with the DNS mail server, but I still don't undersatnd all the wrinkles!

I've changed the DNS pointers, and I'll retest when I am off site

Just a quick FYI:

For some odd reason Peagsus mail doesn't work with the Mitel IMAP server(basically neither the server nor the client will add an extra ',' to a command it gives, so it just doesn't work), so if the client is trying to use IMAP...
