Title: Apt and e-smith
Post by: Phil on January 17, 2003, 08:06:06 PM
I've installed the apt rpm to the new SME V5.6 server.  This provide a nice way to added development tools to your server.  It should also be noted that this can be a dangerous tool.  Upgrades over e-smith templates is a bad thing.   I've installed ruby, gcc, and image tools for  gallery.  Apt is a good thing if you know what your doing.

I suggest you write one HowTo (IF you can/wish) telling us what is safe to let APT to update and how to do that.

Thanks!

apt is, I believe, the Debian software update utility, similar to, but different than RPM. It's supposed to be very smart at going out to get the updates needed.
