Hello,
Has anyone seen this peculiarity?
I have Outlook Express as my email client and use SME 5.6
to serve the POP account. For the most part everything
seems to be working fine BUT sporadically when Outlook Express
goes to download email from SME 5.6, the emails get repeated.
Has anyone seen email get repeated using Outlook Express
and SME 5.6? This is driving me nuts. I have used SME 4.2
for over a year with the same setup and no problems whatsoever.
Any help is appreciated.

I haven't seen 5.6 do this, however I have seen Outlook Express do this all by itself without being anywhere near an SME machine

Actually this repetition of messages is becoming a feature of the internet in general. It shows up particularly badly in the newsgroups and looks like an effect of multiple, unsynchronised transmission paths. I've observed it with several mail and newsreader programs and on a broad range of systems and networks.

Ocasionally I have the same problem using SME 5.6 in multidrop mode. Last time it happened, I checked my POP3 mailbox manually and noticed that it didn't get emptied. SME kept on downloading the same message from my ISP without deleting it. When I deleted the messages manually, the problem stopped.
I'm not sure whether it's a problem with the SME server or the mailserver at my ISP, but I suspect fetchmail is the culprit. I didn't manage to reproduce the error, so I couldn't test it.

I'v seen this strange business before too. When it happened to me, it turned out that the SME Server was downloading messages from my ISP, and kept getting stuck on one single, rather large (20MB) message. Then it would juts drop the connection, without deleting the messages off the ISP, then try again.
Good luck!

I have also had this error and found that the problem is caused if Outlook Express is set to leave a copy of messages on server. It seems to work up to a certain amount of messages and then either Outlook Express or SME gets confused. It appeared that only one client needs to have this set up to cause this to happen. It didn't appear to be a multidrop problem for me as it happened even on internal mails. At one point point I had people getting hundreds of the same mail.
hope this helps
