Title: How do you install with 2 HDs without the RAID?
Post by: Robert on February 06, 2003, 11:00:43 AM
I want to install SME 5.6 on a computer with 2 IDE Hard Drives but without the RAID - I just want to use my two existing hard drives to get the max storage space I can get.

Since I am coming from having used only Windows before, I have no clue how this will effect the file folders, i-bays, etc. with different users. Will I see two separate drives on the workstations like on Windows servers, or just the folders on both?

Is there any documentation somewhere on these things? I couldn't find this data in the manuals or on the forums.

I would appreciate if anyone could tell me how to go about these things from the perspective of a newbie to Linux who only used Windows before.

Install SME Server with just one drive in.
When the install is ready, then put in the second drive.
You then have to change the fstab so that it will mount your second drive.

do a search in these forums on fstab or 2 drives

Or you could do a custom partitioning at install time. Have a look at this thread:
http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=14830.msg56846#msg56846
It discusses a simple method to do custom partitioning that worked with pre-5.5 installers. Damien Curtain came up with a cunning method that works with the 5.5 installer and should actually work with any kickstart installation.
