Help!
I am sure that I have read on the forum that other users have configured e-smith with a d-link 300g+ to connect to Demon ADSL. I have tried very hich way but with no joy. Demon requires PPPoA which the D-link modem can handle and I can configure the D-link modem to connect to it. However, the modem uses a DHCP server and registers the mac address of the NIC connecting to it. I have even tried lifting the NIC out of my E-smith box, putting it in a windows machine for the purpose o configuring the D-link device and then sticking it back in the E-smith box, having configured the latter to offer the mac address to the DHCP server in the D-link modem. No good...
Is there any way of configuring E-smith to connect via PPoA (as opposed to PPPoE)? I can't see any option to do this but I am a novice at this game.
Thanks in anticipation
Nick

Does anything from http://forums.contribs.org/index.php?topic=16426.msg63569#msg63569 help?

I tried that but without luck. However, I retraced my steps with regard to swapping the NIC and spoofing the D-Link modem and, shock horror, it works! I must have entered a wrong password or similar.
Many thanks, though, for your suggestion. If any other E-smith fans want to use Demon with this D-link device then the process is as follows:
1. take your "external" NIC from your e-smith box and put it in a windows m/c in order to configure the modem as a PPPoA connection with username and p/word etc.
2. replace the NIC in the e-smith box.
3. configure e-smith to connect to a DHCP server and send the network (mac) address as its identifier for this purpose.
4. Test internet connection ...
Cheers.
