Title: Printing from different network clients
Post by: Peter on February 14, 2003, 12:33:36 PM
Hi,

I've been using SME 5.x for several months. It works great for DHCP server, file/print server and also for routing. If I have another network, how do I share the printer within 2 different networks? All clients are Windows 2000 pro at the moment. As far as I know, SME server use NAT. Therefore, I can't imagine how do I draw the picture for that. Currently I set the master DNS server with magma, 206.191.0.210. I don't have much ideas on private IP how to handle it in multiple private networks. Any ideas, tips or utilities for the situation? Thanks in advance.

Hi Peter,

Unfortunately, you have not given enough information for anyone to help you properly.

Please try and clearly state if your 2 networks are 2 local networks (within the same office, for example) but with 2 different IP schemes, or 2 networks meaning two physically remote networks, each with their own SME server or not, etc., etc. .....

This is my work environment network; I already have ADSL network in the office for the internet. Recently I added a network for testing purpose connnected through the existing network for the internet access. As you can imagine, existing network using NAT(10.1.0.0/16) ip. Also, the new network using NAT ip(Let's say, 10.2.0.0/16). Within the network environment I would like to setup a print server(Samba). I tested the samba for a network and it works flawlessly.

However, I would like to share one printer for both networks(10.1.x.x/16, 10.2.x.x/16). What should I be the solution for the case? If it is related with public IP, then I could assign an IP for a printer. However, I don't know how do I handle the private IPs. Thanks.

I have two local networks. One is running on windows 2000 server and other is running on sme5.5 server . I want to connect both network to make global trust relationship. on windows 2000 I have 10 windows98 pc and 5 printer and on sme server I have 20 win98 pc and 6 printer I want to share all printer and make global trust relationship so any body can logon from any where and use any printer.
