Post by: gbl on February 25, 2003, 10:28:40 AM
I just downloaded the current ISO Image (...56unsupportet.iso) from the FTP Server. Now I wonder that I can“t boot from the Image. Is CD Boot currently supportet?

My Machine can boot from CD - verified!

Hi,

The CD is definately bootable, I suggest you check out the image and the burning parameters.

Andrew.

I just went through this. Yes, the image is a boot-able CD. There were two obstacles I had to overcome before I could boot from the CD.

1. Make sure the md5 checksum of the image file is the same as the checksum of the server. The install instructions for SME covers this.

2. Make certain your CD burner will burn a boot-able CD. In my case, I had to change a default value to do this.

After I got these two issue taken care of, the target machine booted and the install completed without a flaw.

I tried that ISO and, yes, it certainly does boot. As the other posters said, check the MD5 matches up.

I burnt good copies with Prassi Primo & also with ECDC5. You must burn using these packages' *image* setting ie not just the file... otherwise you just end up with a backup copy of the downloaded ISO file on the CD and that certainly doesn't boot:~/

If you have got the bootable floppy made, I think there is a way of booting up on the floppy and then pointing the install process to a file on the hard drive (as opposed to a separate CDROM drive).

best wishes, Robert
