Title: The most annoying login problem
Post by: Adam Thompson on February 26, 2003, 09:40:40 PM
I have set up sme e-smith servers for a few clients and i have a consistant login problem with two of them. I can login as any user no problem, but i can only login as admin about 10% of the time. It simply rejects either username or password. The only commonality that i can see is that both passwords have a - (Hyphen) in them. One problem machine is running 5.5 and the other is 5.6.
Now the password works some times but some days i simply cannot login as admin or root from the server or any of the client on the domain. It is driving me crazy. Someone please help............

I had the same problem on my own beta server. Take these servers OFFLINE IMMEDIATELY... This is almost definately a ROOTKIT hack. I have since been kick off from the RoadRunner network as punishment because someone was using my server as a launchpad for exploits.

I was not able to find any traces of exploits, so I thought that I was fine. Not So. The hack was simply smaryt enough to cover his tracks real well.

Since then I have installed an IDS in addition to a multi-tiered firewall architechture.
