Hi,
im experiencing an often disconnection in my sme 5.5 server. My ADSL uses pppoe to connect. connecting is easy... but the problem is that it will drop the connection especially when there isnt much activity that uses the internet.
I tried to use other linux Server/gateway like Smoothwall beta2 bullet, to try to know if there's a problem in my ISP. So i setup a Smoothwall Firewall/Gateway... then i observed it and to my surprice, it didnt had any disconnection for 12 whole hours!
Does this means that it disconnects in a certain idle time in internet usage from my LAN??? how can i remove this if ever there is an "idle timeout" set in sme 5.5?
the said Firewall/Gateway (smoothwall) has an option to set how much idle time before you will get disconnected.Unfortunately, i havent found an option like that in my sme server manager and i dont know the right command for that.... so please? please? please? pretty please? give me a solution for this problem. I dont want to change to smoothwall coz its kinda boring... you cant put anything in it. :-(

the prob is your ISP.
they scan for inactivity for some time and disconnect you.
Smoothwall is the worst think I've ever seen so DON'T USE IT!!!!
It's full of security holes etc!!!
If you wnat to stay connected write a script that will ping some site every 5 min or so or just setup yout POP to get your mails every 5 min.

That's a serious allegation.
Care to elaborate?
