Title: No Ethernet connection

Problem - setup e-smith 4.0b7
prev 2 servers from this CD OK

mode S/G-dial
error - no ethernet connection
output from >ifconfig
lo 127.0.0.1 ok
ppp0 - ok - diald ran
no eth0 shows

card was autoconfig - ne2000 pci
card manf - surecom

what have I missed ?

Stewart,
When you boot up your e-smith, watch to see if you get a green OK next to your eth0
indicating it was initialized.  If not reconfigure your server and try a different driver.

ahem - it shows the green OK -
I was caught before with a dud card

will check  init log to see what that shows

Are there any quick checks to see if card can be "seen"
by linux

The test I should have made was the "green" LED on the card
pci slot interupt was set to Auto - set to fixed INT 10 - light on

E-smith then booted ok

"thud thud *^% PC"

problem closed
