Title: PHP update
Post by: Merlin on March 15, 2003, 01:05:43 AM
Hi,

i´ve got an SME 5.1.2 server running for a couple of years running as a fileserver and test-environment on the intranet. It is installed on a 166MHz(!) Pentium with  16MB(!!) RAM - and it is working fine.

Unfortunately a php-script which i like to try out, need a higher version than the one that is pre-installed with the SME 5.1.2.

I tried to install SME 5.6, but i wasn´t able to because of "you don´t have enough RAM to install SME ... on your computer" (by the way, is there a chance to install it anyway?)

So now, I like to update my PHP version - at the moment PHP Version 4.0.6 is running.

Do I have to uninstall this version before installing the latest one or is it possible to install it "over" the existing?

How Do I install the latest version (sorry, I´m not an expert in linux) - what do I have to configure?

Thanx in advance!

A quick search for "php" at contribs.org/LinkBase will give you the following link to Dan Brown's fine howto.
