Hi,
You need at leasta fax client (e.g. WHFC or relayfax)
See for example www.chaloner.ca

You are not very specific abount your problems !!
------
If you don't know how to send the fax from Windows, you can use this method:
If you are able to connect to Hylafax from the WHFC, you do have a connection with the Hylafax server.
Install the generic Adobe postscript driver for your Windows version.
When you come to the point where you select the local printer port, select the "WHFC Faxprinter port".
You are now able to send (print) a fax directly from your Windows application to the Hylafax, if you select the Adobe generic printer and WHFC is running.
Thereafter it is just to watch the send / done queue in WHFC.
Remember to set WHFC to send an email always, the first time you try to send a fax.
------
If you can't send any faxes, you should receive an email with an error looking
something like this (extract):
Mar 21 08:41:33.89: [17640]: SESSION BEGIN 00000010 xxxxxxxxxx
Mar 21 08:41:33.89: [17640]: HylaFAX (tm) Version 4.1.5
Mar 21 08:41:33.89: [17640]: SEND FAX: JOB 4 DEST xxxxxxxxxx COMMID 00000010 DEVICE '/dev/ttyS0'
Mar 21 08:41:33.89: [17640]: DELAY 75 ms
Mar 21 08:41:33.97: [17640]: DELAY 2600 ms
Mar 21 08:41:36.57: [17640]: DELAY 10 ms
Mar 21 08:41:36.58: [17640]: <-- [4:ATZ\r]
Mar 21 08:41:37.30: [17640]: --> [2:OK]
Mar 21 08:41:37.30: [17640]: DELAY 3000 ms
Mar 21 08:41:40.30: [17640]: <-- [5:ATE0\r]
Mar 21 08:41:40.31: [17640]: --> [4:ATE0]
Mar 21 08:41:40.31: [17640]: --> [2:OK]
Mar 21 08:41:40.31: [17640]: <-- [5:ATV1\r]
Mar 21 08:41:40.32: [17640]: --> [2:OK]
The OK indicates that your Hylafax is able to communicate with the modem - is it on the correct ttyS? (please note the CAPITAL S)
At the end of the email indicating that you could'nt send the fax, you will have something like this:
Mar 21 08:41:40.57: [17640]: --> [2:OK]
Mar 21 08:41:40.57: [17640]: DIAL xxxxxxxxxx (phonenumber)
Mar 21 08:41:40.57: [17640]: <-- [13:ATDTxxxxxxxxxx\r]
Mar 21 08:42:05.51: [17640]: --> [4:BUSY]
Mar 21 08:42:05.51: [17640]: SEND FAILED: JOB 4 DEST xxxxxxxxxx ERR Busy signal detected
Mar 21 08:42:05.51: [17640]: <-- [5:ATH0\r]
-------
If none of the above is the problem, i think you have to give some more details
Best regards

Regarding general setup of Hylafax I can recommend that you read:
http://mirror.contribs.org/smeserver/contribs/dmay/mitel/contrib/HylaFAX/hylafax-howto.html
The above is SME specific, but you can get a LOT of information about fax clients (email/printer/web) and trouble shooting on the hylafax.org homepage.
Take a look at the HylaFax HowTo:
http://www.hylafax.org/howto/index.html
email: http://www.hylafax.org/howto/faxing.html#ss5.4
Pritning via Samba: http://www.hylafax.org/howto/faxing.html#ss5.6

Yes - You can send a fax as an email. But my own opinion is that it's not very practical - when sending email to fax there is just a simple check for a phone number in the email (so dont send fax'es with phone number). Look at the links above to hylafax.org

Open WHFC, Select Fax->System Preferences, Specify your servername.
This basic setup is completed by selecting the OK button.
After this you will have 3 buttons on the top of the WHFC window, marked as:
S (send queue) R (receive queue) D(done queue)
Select any of these 3, and in the gray window just below your name/email you will now see the connection status.
Normally this will show:
HylaFax scheduler on (servername): Running
Modem ttyS? (your fax phone number): Running and idle
If you dont get this - check your system preferences again, or re-check your installation of HylaFax on your server.

Could you explain in details your configuration of printing?
I assume you have installed another printer in your windows computer pointing to a shared fax/printer on sme server. This has sambafax (or salsafax!?) installed ...
Am I right?
Have you any problems with perl module Getopt-Long-2.32 & perl module Mail-Sendmail-0.78 ? Are they present on standard SME install or you download them from rpmfind ?
What Ps printer do you installed on your WS?
Can you tell me how to install the printers drivers on SME server so I haven´t to install them WS by WS ... just double click on SME SERVER and accept the installation?
Thanks!

Maybe you coud post your addon to smb.conf (because of templates you must be using a addon!) and your printercap file .
What do you think?
Thanks!
