After running e-smith for almost a year, I have decided I need to start cosidering doing backups :). I've been reading the threads, and I am going to try setting up a cdr burner and backup that way. One question I have is: Is there a way to exclude specific ibays from the backup? I have a couple of user forums on my system, and a large file sharing ibay, that don't need to be backed up on a normal schedule. Plus they are huge. If I can exclude them, I am sure I can fit the entire backup on a single cd. Is there a flag I can set, or a file marker, to exclude specific directories?
I have these ibays actually on another physical disk, so I could do a umount before I back up, but I thought I would try to find another way.

dungog.net has a HowTo on customizing the backup. I don't know anything about how the CD-R backup works though, so I'm not sure if this will help you...

backup2ws may also be useful, it can specify CD sized backup files and exclude certain folders etc.

There is also a contrib specifically for what you want to do.

Module for backup to CD

I've written a Module which I use to backup to a CD burner - it plugs into the server manager interface, and can run scheduled backups.
The module also lets you burn audio and data CD's from the server manager web page.

Obviously your user data needs to be small enough to fit onto a CD (when compressed) - which will depend on number of users, and how much / what type of data they have.
cheers

Hope these help
