Title: ftp'ing and permissions
Post by: mike davies on April 02, 2003, 06:10:09 PM
i created a directory as root and couldn't upload to it when logged in as userX (550 permission denied)

so then i did a chmod 777 DirectoryName and tried again to upload but had same problem.

so i did a chown userX:userX DirectoryName and tried again same problem

i could probably delete the directory and create it as the user but i hope somehow i could fix the problem and learn something at the same time

help appreciated
Thanks,
Mike

Now where did I hear that before?
You must have some Linux knowledge, but no knowledge of E-Smith.
Sounds like you are not doing things "The E-Smith Way".
Try creating everything from the Server-Manager.
Create a user.
Create a Usergroup.
Put the user in that group.
Create an Ibay and give the group permission on the Ibay.
Make sure that the password of the user and the password of the Ibay are the same.
