Title: Hardware that works!
Post by: Orville Carter on June 26, 2000, 06:44:15 AM
Just thought I would share this with readers.

I am running E-Smith 4.0 on a Pentium 233mmx system.
Motherboard has Intel chipset.
64 Meg Ram, S3 Virge PCI video /8 Meg
IDE 24x CD-Rom
Two PCI 10-BaseT NIC's
One 10 Gig Diff SCSI drive w/Mylex BT-958D SCSI card.
Internet connection is (DSL) via FlowPoint 2200 router box.

This system is a web-server, proxy/gateway server for a small internal lan.
It also works as a mail server for the lan.
The system runs 24 Hours, 7 days/week (and Sundays too!) Ha, Ha!

No problems (not a squeek) occured at the time of installation - several months
back - or since that time. Iptraf is also running on the server.
Iptraf tcp connection screen keeps tabs on all user connections.
I can go over to a user and say (quietly, NY style), WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU DOING?.....
Lan users read email with any email client - outlook, etc.

My advise to users: Do your homework before installing e-smith.

Aye Laddie! Y'right.
E-Smith works!

There is no question about that. If users follow the RedHat hardware list
they should have no problem.

Thanks

Hey I guess I got lucky - I'm running my e-smith 4.0 on a Pentium 133 Gateway - I have no idea what hardware it's got, except two NIC's that I out in.  I have no problem except my brain is not prepared for the form validation on my websites.

Cheers
