Title: ftp access
Post by: Paul Van Lint on April 13, 2003, 11:55:05 PM
Have website and different i-bays on my e-smith server.

Problem:
========
- Only people belonging to my Internet provider can access my server using ftp (port 21) and this without any problem.
- My provider blocks ports for outsiders below 2000.

How can I manage that everybody can have access to my website/i-bays?

Thanks for any support.
Paul

Change the FTP listening port to something above 2000, see this thread, look near the bottom, it works:

Untested on 5.6, I've used this procedure on 5.5u3 and 5.1.2, YMMV.

Hi Terry,

Made modification.

1) Have to check. Waiting for response from those who could not connect before.

2) Localy I cannot connect anymore !!! Why?

Don't know, any time I fire up a new server I change the FTP port, restart the xinetd service (you did do that, right?) and I can connect locally and remote.  Recheck your configuration, specifically xinetd.conf.
