Title: Email Question
Post by: Andy Poole on April 15, 2003, 12:00:32 AM
Hi,

I am hosting quite a few virtual domains now.

What do I do when two customers both want dave@theirdomain.com?

I know I could start using surnames but I would have thought it was possible to have two domains with users with the same name and different domain?

like:

fred@abd.com
fred@efg.com

Look forward to any replies. Thanks,

Andy

No, virtual domains are just different ways to refer to the same system. Each user is an account on the SME, not an account for a specific domain. There's a HowTo for creating virtual domain aliases that addresses at least some of these problems...

Nope what you want will not work. E-Smith insists on all users being OS system users therefor a user will always be the same no matter how many domains. Unless e-mail authentication is handled by a database or LDAP etc... you will never be able to do what you want to.

Unfortunatly as mutch as I love the e-smith consept I have had to ditch it for the above functionality and a scalable solution that uses virtual domains and virtual users. Still would love for e-smith to do this but right now a RedHat 8.0 box with qmail toaster ( http://qmailtoaster.clikka.com/ ) and all is working great.
