Post by: Neil on April 17, 2003, 03:55:20 AM
I've been trying to install 5.6. Boot starter goes up to the point "english" then says it cant find red hat. I've burnt 2 CD's and tried 3 diff floppies to see if their are any errors, have had no Luck :(

I had a similar problem with my previous test box - basically, the 5.6 install routines were not recognizing my CD-ROM drive (an NEC SCSI drive that works fine on 5.1.2). The conclusion I came to is that RH 7.3 no longer supports older hardware (in my case, the box is a Dell PowerEdge SP5133 server - one of Dell's earliest servers). I acquired a newer box (a PPro 180 with IDE CD drive) which 5.6 installed on clean as a whistle.

I'm downloading 5.5 right now and will try that. I noticed on one of the threads that someone had problems with 5.6, so see what happens.

Thanks!
