Hello,
I'm trying to setup remote access to an SME 5.6 server via broadband. The broadband connection is controlled by a Vigor 2600 Router. ANd I have setup VPN on the router, when I VPN into the router it veryifys my username & password, and connects me to the network.
I can ping the sme box, and access the server manager, but I cannot access any windows shares on the SME server.
Anyone have any idea's?
Thanks in advance,
Charles

Are you logged onto your remote pc with a vaild username/password that is on the SME? (SME will not use the credentials you supplied to the VPN router, it will use windows based credentials).

Hello,
Yes I'm using a valid sme logon, for the windows username. What happans is, when I go to "Start" then "Run" and type either \server or \192.168.1.1 (Which is the name of the server and it's IP address)
All Windows says it the network name could not be found.
Do I need to add the SME server into the DMZ option in the router?
Thanks,
Charles

Charles,
What OS is the remote client running ? If it is not WinNT and above (ie. W2K, XP), \192.168.1.1 does not work. \server won't work if WINS isn't working correctly.

Hello,
The Client is using win XPSP1 Pro.
I was wondering if I setup the router to port forward to the SME for samba, but what port number does samba run on??
THanks again,
Charles
