Hi Phorum,
I have an SME-Server 5.6 up and running. This machine host a couple of test websites. 2 of these host Gallery (PHP) albums.
Now these have been running for 1½ day without problems. This morning the server went cold on me. I did a cold boot (even though I hate doing so). After a few minutes - down again. This has happened to me now 5 times.
After one crash I could see a lot of kernel messages on the screen. I don't know what they mean, but I took a dig. photo of the screen.
I have found out that as long there is activity on the server it will stay up! Therefor I started the machine and immediate started a slideshow from the Gallery application. Now after 1 h I still have activity - phew!
But what went wrong? I'm quite new to this, so I don't know which logfiles to consult for probable cause.
Anyone get any ideas? I can send the photo to anyone who would like to take a crack at it.
Thnx in advance

Morten,
If you like, send me the photo (brianr at bjsystems.co.uk), no promises
though.
The problem is almost certainly hardware!
cheers

Did you disable all power saving options in the bios?
-
Yes,
Brian Read suggested it was hardware that wasn't tightly fixed,
or the CPU overheating. I am sure CPU is not OH, so I checked for loose
objects in the RAM-, IDE- and ISA-bays. No apparent loose ends.
Puzzling though it has been running stable now since the incidents 26 h ago.
So I just hope that this was a "one off". BIOS APM features I think have
been disabled (something should have happened before if not).
Thanks for your tip!
