Title: How to back up to tape files on a workstation
Post by: Dan Williams on May 15, 2003, 06:20:31 PM
Hi,
Has any one a how to on how to set up so that files that are on a pc share get backed up to the server at night?
The situation does not allow for these files to actually be on the server.
What I vision is using samba to somehow map to this PC but I need assistance or advice on how to do this.
Thanks
Dan

You could do it the another way  - just write a batch file on the PC that copies or backups all files to a share on the server and run the batch file on a scheduled basis - then include the share in your tape backup on the server. Just need to make sure the PC batch file has completed before the server backup occurs.

If you are running XP on the workstation use the /system/backup utility (Veritas backup) that comes with that. This can be scheduled to run when you like and is able to see ibays on the server.
