Title: partition
Post by: Matthew on June 18, 2003, 08:49:32 PM
I have just put a second hard drive in my sme box, it had a fat32 partition and had all my data stored on it, i now took the drive out and put it back into a windows machine and the partition has changed to a non-dos partition...

is this normal? there are two partitions on the drive now
is there a way to correct this? is all my data gone?
what can i do?

please help

what did you do with it while it was in the SME box?  did you do an install of SME?  did you attempt to mount it into the SME filesystem?

1. Don't do it again!

2. Boot the machine on a startup floppy from the correct version of
Windows which has the program fdisk.exe on it and issue the
    command...

                           FDISK/MBR

This will remake the boot sector and hopefully solve your problem.

If you started the install with the drive connected, odds are it's been reformated and repartitioned.  That's why the install screen says that all attached hard drives will be erased.
