Title: SME 5.5 does not detect all 1GB of Ram
Post by: Dan Williams on June 25, 2003, 07:55:55 PM
Hello,
Our SME has been in service for a year, and working great.
This morning, the screen displayed:
kernel panic - Free List Corrupted.
I powered off the server, waited a minute powered back up.
It did the file system check, and eventually provided a log in and we are using it again.
I reviewed the logs, and have seen this before but thought now would be a good time to find an answer as to wether the following is common, or if anyonme else experiences same.

We have one (1) GB of ram in this unit (2 - 512MB Sticks)
kernel: BIOS-provided physical RAM map:
Jun 25 08:29:04 merlin kernel:  BIOS-e820: 0009f000 @ 00000000 (usable)
Jun 25 08:29:04 merlin kernel:  BIOS-e820: 3fef0000 @ 00100000 (usable)
Jun 25 08:29:04 merlin kernel: Warning only 896MB will be used.

It was always the case with kernel 2.2.x based servers.
You will see full 1GB of RAM if you upgrade it to version 5.6 (Kernel 2.4 based)

Thanks Michael, 16Gb is four times what I can run in my board, so I should be fine ;' ) lol.
