Title: Upgrade from 5.5 to 5.6u4
Post by: Tom Veitch on July 15, 2003, 11:53:50 AM
I have just upgraded a 5.5 server to 5.6U4 the 5.5 had raid with two 40gb hdds all when well. but after about 4 hours the hole system got slow and when i looked at it the memory was a 98% used and no use on the swap and it was un useable fo the users on the network.  I have now installed more ram they now have 512meg installed and all seems ok but the useage is up to 88% and still no swap useage.

I feel that in about 2 hours it will all slow down again. if i reboot all is fine again.

Anyone have any info what could be doing this

Tom

if your drives are IDE , check if hdparm is running,

it seems to get turned off by the latest upgrades.

As far as I know, it is perfectly normal with a close-to-100 % RAM utilization and close-to-0 % use of the swap space. Using RAM rather than swap space obviously benefits performance.
