Title: Install freeze at usb
Post by: Robert Devantier on July 21, 2003, 11:56:31 PM
I'm trying to install SME 5.6 onto an HP NetServer E-800.  When I boot from the CD or the boot floppy, the install hangs at the point where the USB drivers are being loaded.  When I install 4.1.2 on this unit years ago, I remember having to put a "nousb" option on the boot floppy in order to get it to install.

I tried to do this with the 5.6 floppy, but I guess I didn't get it right.  Does anybody know how to get 5.6 onto this unit?  It is a dual-processor P3/1GHz with the ServerWorks chipset.  I have to drive 3 hours and then fly for a half-an-hour to the island this box is located on, so I'd like to get it right the next time I'm there.

Thanks in advance.

Disable USB in BIOS?

Would have been the first thing I tried, except HP uses a limited Phoenix BIOS and they don't give the option to do that.  The answer for 4.x was the "nousb" option in the boot parameters.  Just trying to find what the equivalent is for 5.6.

I would guess "nousb" :-)

Hold shift at boot time to get the syslinux prompt. Then type "accept nousb".
