Title: Network-Problem

Hi!
Im trying to install a SME-Server Version 5.5
After installation it seems to work, but I can't reach it from any clients. I even can't ping the server. I can only ping the server by itself. I'm using 2 new Network-Adapters with a Realtek-Chip on it. Can anybody help me to find the problem?

Did you enable the DHCP server and are the clients setup to use DHCP?

I don't use DHCP. My Local IP is: 192.168.0.8, Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
The external IP is 196.168.144.160, Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0

If I change one subnetmask, it works perfectly... but I can't change it, because these two networks exist already and I have to go from one into the other for the Internet-Connection. How can I use the same subnetmask on both network-adapters?

Your local and external subnets are ok, so why change it? To create different subnets with your address's you should change the third bit 192.168.x.0 where x markes the third bit.

So for your clients to see your server, they alle need an address within 192.168.0.x

So your clients have static ip's too then?
In the range of 192.168.0.x - 254 with subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
Default gateway should be 192.168.0.8
DNS server: 192.168.0.8
WINS: 192.168.0.8

Is this what is on your clients?

Ok, then we got that eliminated

On the server console, can u ping localhost? and then also ping external nic, 196.168.144.160??

Because if u can, it is not possible that it dosent work unless u have cabling problems etc.

From server-console I can ping:
192.168.0.8 (local) Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
192.168.144.160 (external) Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
127.0.0.1 (localhost)
I can't ping any client and the clients can't ping the server. The cables are OK!  I use them for my network!! Any idea what the problem may be? I can ping clients, if I configure like that:
192.168.0.8 Subnetmask: 255.255.255.0
192.168.144.160 Subnetmask: 255.255.255.1

Is it perhaps possible that you have your external & internal cables switched around?
