Title: How to see what SME version installed
Post by: Hans Junnit on August 01, 2003, 11:34:38 AM
Hi there

I have downloaded beta 1 and 2 of SME 6. Installede both. But my server in the server-manager says it is version 6.0 beta1 ??

How can I see what version of SME I have installed and is running ?

Beta3 is shipped in many rpms - is there a way to install the all instead at one at a time ?

Thanks

rpm -q SMEServer

I don't see any release notes for the beta 3 patch, but, I'd assume as like past patches they are accumulitive (sp?).  Meaning, if you're at beta1, and need to go to beta3, you DO NOT have to install beta2 first.  Just download all the beta3 rpms to a directory and install them all at once (rpm -Uvh *.rpm), make sure all the rpm's are in one directory when you do it.  Not sure if you need to use -Uvh or --replacepkgs, there's no instructions on the proper install procedure.

Download the 6b3 rpms into a single direcory anywhere on your SME server - the best bet is to put them in a subdirectory of your main working ibay because you can use a Windows FTP program on a workstation for ease.

Then log in as root with your administrator password and navigate to the directory where you put the rpms. The issue the following commands...

1. rpm -Uvh --replacepkgs *.rpm

2. /sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade

3. /sbin/e-smith/signal-event reboot.

The system will then reboot and, when it comes back up, it will break off halfway through the boot sequence and perform an update of all your settings, before completing the boot as normal. You will then be running 6b3.

Does a /sbin/e-smith/signal-event post-upgrade expand all templates?  If not, what does?

Yes, and as far as I have been able to determine, it respects custom templates, thus preserving addon programs.

I had to go the other way.  Just restored a 5.5 database onto a 6.0 machine, network cards were working before I did the restore, but not after.  Once I removed all my custom templates (for add-ons that weren't installed yet) and ran the post-upgrade event with a reboot, everything came back as fine.  Now to just get some of the add-ons working again...

No that should have read the rpms for SME 6b3 [Version 6 beta 3]

???????????????

Mine says beta 3 and I produced it by upgrading.

When I tried to load some of my addon programs direct to a new install of 6, they wouldn't go in. So I reinstalled the 5.6 iso, rebuilt my server with all the addons I want, and then upgraded to 6 and on through the 6 updates. This preserved all the addon prgrams and the server runs very well. The only problem I have, is that some of the server manager panels for the addon programs are unformatted, although they all work fine. When I originally tried to install those addons to 6 it seemed to be the server manager panels that failed to build at all.

My 6b3 box is used as my own personal file and print server. The only use
I have for the web-server aspect of SME is to get to the management panels,
and to produce nice database front ends for users within the local
network, in the hope that I can deploy such systems for my clients *after*
Samba is improved enough to be able to handle simple stuff like Sage
accounts! The entire notion of having your own internet server in the UK
is ludicrous, unless you're prepared to spend a lot of money. So, if the
virtual domain side of the server doesn't work properly, I would never see
it.

The content of /etc/e-smith-release should show you the version.

I started off with beta2 and the file showed
 -> Mitel Networks server 6.0beta2
when I upgraded to beta3 it showed
 -> Mitel Networks server 6.0beta3
