Hi All,
I have a friend who I recommended sme (SME5.5) to, I helped him install and configure it and it has been running with no problems for about 10 months. Today he suffered a power outage and now it will not reboot. Of course he hasn't backed up the server for a while and he has about 30 gig of graphic design work saved on there!
When you try to boot it starts a forced check and at around 70% (so close yet so far) and the following comes up:
/: File ... (inode # 2081053, mod time Fri Aug 1 11.45.08 2003)
has 1 duplicate block(s), shared with 1 file(s) :
/: ... (inode # 1786599, mod time Fri Aug 1 11.45.08 2003)
/:
/: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY
(ie , without -a or -p options
[FAILED}
*** An error occured during the file system check.
*** Dropping you to a shell; the system will reboot
*** when you leave the shell.
Give Root password for maintenance (or type Control-D for normal startup.):
Then after entering the Root password:
(Repair filesystem) 1 #
Can anyone tell me what I should type here, I have tried various combinations such as fsck
Returns a message
fsck 1.26 (3-Feb-2002)
No devices specified to be checked
So I have then tried fsck root
fsck hda
fsck hdc
fsck/root
fsck/hda
fsck/hdc
and so on.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Del

From the (Repair filesystem) 1 # prompt, type fsck / and answer yes to all the questions. Atleast this is what I need to do on 5.5 when losing power.

Thanks, Terry I didn't do a proper search in my panic, I've got it running again. I am backing up the files as we speak!
The support from this forum is first class! Now if I could only get the same sort of help with my windows problems......
Thanks again,
Del
