Title: Backing up remote servers using SME Server
Post by: Danny Wong on August 05, 2003, 10:21:15 PM
Hello,

I am wondering if anyone has tried / has had success configuring scheduled tape backups of file structures of other servers via rsync or something.  In addition to SME backup.

Thanks

Yes, I use dungog-rsync which is a server-manager panel addon and it works like a dream. At 8.00pm every night site A sends its contents to site B, then at 10pm site A receives site B's contents. Both servers then backup to tape at 2.00am. The sites have about 2GB of data each, so the initial backup had to be done onsite using tape backup/restore. This is all fully automated via cron jobs and logs are e-mailed to admin. Because it uses rsync the actual data transferred every night is minimal. Visit www.dungog.net
