Title: DNS Resolution Issue
Post by: Ron on August 06, 2003, 10:22:14 AM
Hi All,

I have a E-Smith 5.5 Install and have created 3 Virtual Domains.  I use DYNDNS as my DNS provider.  My query is and I am wondering if other users have the same issue and is as follows.

My 1st Domain is called http://www.Domain1 and when it is entered in explorer as http://www.Domain1 the site is found.

My 2nd Domain is a Secure site and is called https://www.Domain2 and when it is entered in explorer as https://www.Domain2 it is not found.  However if in exploer I enter https://Domain2 it is found.

My 3rd Domain is a secure site and is called https://www.Domain3 and when it is entered into explorer as https://www.Domain3 it is not found.  However when I enter the site as https://Domain3 it is found.

Any idea why?

Go back to DynDNS and in the domain setups click the "Wildcard" check box.  That will make "anything.domain2" resolve to your IP (ie: www, ftp, mail).  Right now DynDNS is not resolving the www because you didn't tell it where "www" was.

Terry,

Thankyou that was exactly what I needed to do.
