Title: 3Ware Controller & E-Smith How to know if drive fails
Post by: Dan Williams on August 07, 2003, 04:22:00 AM
Hello,
How do you know when a drive fails with these controllers?
There must be a way to check, or be alerted?

Hi Dan,

You can check it 2 ways

1) CLI
2) With the 3dm utility

you can download the CLI at http://www.3ware.com/support/download_7.6.3.asp?SNO=186
untar/execute the application and viola direct acces to the controller (status hdd rebuild etc)

The 3dm utilty is a different story certainly not a task for beginners. Shad Lords has all the needed files on his page http://lordsfam.net/downloads/production/3ware/

I also recommend you to read the 3ware 7000 series documentation on installing the 3dm utility.

Regards,

Herc

Hi Dan,

Running on SME 5.6, I downloaded the 3dm utility from Shad's website and installed it but not the driver from Shad. In my attempts, using Shad's drivers appears to cause boot problems with my setups. So, I've decided to stick to the drivers that comes with SME 5.6. This did not seem to impact the 3dm utility (that I've noticed anyway).

The 3dm will let you view the RAID status via a web browser and you can also configure an e-mail address to send warnings and alerts to.

Hi Kelvin,
Can you provide specifics on how you did this?
I have stumbled around with this a bit tonight with no success.
