We're trying to implement an SME solution for my school district that will filter web content, allow / deny access to the internet based on Novell user account, and in the future set up the server to cache the web for improved surfing. We have purchased a brand new server to do host these needs, an HP 2.4GHz Xeon with 512mb ram and hardware mirroring (32GB x2). So far we have chosen SME 5.6 as the platform, but I am starting to have questions if 5.5 would be a better solution. We are going to implement Squid, Squid-Guard, and DansGuardian. So the question becomes this:
Which is better to do this on, SME 5.5 or 5.6? I would greatly welcome any and all thoughts, comments, or suggestions. Thanks!

depends on your choice.
I went back to 5.5 rather 5.6 because kernel unstable in 5.6. So I switch back to 5.5.
I have a server testing 6 and it seems ok. Maybe you can run for 6-final a bit later. They are great at this project.

kernel unstable? what did it do that was unsettling? I upgraded a 5.1.2 home server to 5.6 with all updates and so far all seems nominal.

I have used 5.12, 5.5, 5.6 and 6.0 beta3 - And I think the most stable of them all was 5.6

Hi,
I have 5 servers running 5.6u4. They've been running continously since the last u4. Very stable.

So you must know of some problems with 6.0beta3. Please be sure to report them to smebugs@mitel.com. Check for updates first - there are a couple.
