I got tired of having so many e-mail accounts to check, so I decided to combine some user accounts and use pseudonyms to get the e-mail. I had two accounts, "info" and "help". They both go to me, so I deleted the user "help" and attempted to create a pseudonym called "help" that points to "info".
I get:
Error: That name is in use You cannot create a pseudonym with that name.
I tried:
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event pseudonym-delete help
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event user-delete help
/sbin/e-smith/signal-event pseudonym-create help:info
but to no avail.
There must be something I have to purge or delete in order to make my SME 5.6 server allow me to add the help pseudonym.
Please let me know, because all e-mails to help are being bounced until I can get this resolved.
Thanks

I solved the problem. I tried deleting user "info" and re-creating it.
I got:
The account can't be created because there is already a user-deleted account of that name.
So I did this:
/sbin/e-smith/db accounts delete info
and
/sbin/e-smith/db accounts delete help
Then I was able to create the info account and the pseudonym of help pointing to info.

I had this problem with a mandrake set up that
I ultimately installed SME over. The problem is
that the user name is still listed in the user.conf
file. Keep in mind that you will also need to
delete the name in the group.conf file in
order to be able to reuse the username.
This would be straight forward on mandrake
or redhat, sme however uses the template
system so if you simply edit these two files,
it won't fix the problem.
If you know how to do it, you need to purge those
to files. Did you use the server manager to
remove the username? Or did you do it from
the command line. I've not had this problem
with sme as long as I use the server-manager.
Good luck.
P.S. I haven't the slightest idea how to do what
you may need to do from the command line.
Like I said, in mandrake it was straight forward.
All I had to do is edit the two files.
