Title: which is Beta3
Post by: Brian Read on August 24, 2003, 08:18:31 PM
Just looking to try 6.0beta3, but am mildly confused by the file names.

The md5sum file mentions smeserver-6.0beta3-unsupported.iso, wjhereas the actual file is called smeserver-6.0dev-unsupported.iso.  the Md5sum matches so i suppose it is ok.

However there are also a lot of RPMs, do i have to apply them afterwards, or does the .iso have them in already?

Cheers

Brian

The 'file' smeserver-6.0beta3-unsupported.iso is actually a symlink to smeserver-6.0dev-unsupported.iso. they are the same file.
afaik, you only need to apply the 6.0B3 update RPM's located in dev/6.0dev/updates/6.0beta3/RPMS/

As Steve said, they are the same file. We do this to be friendly to our mirror
sites - they only have to rsync the differences between the various alphas and
betas.

If we used the real filename, our mirrors would be forced to perform a
full rsync of the new image. The same applies to anyone downloading the
development images from our mirrors.

The savings can be substantial - the entire image is hundreds of megabytes,
while the differences are typically in the tens of megabytes.
