Hy,
Recently I got a permanent IP-address. Now I want to run my homepage on my own web server. I use SME-server 5.6.
I use the following settings:
Remote access:
- FTP user account access = private
- FTP access limits = Normal usage
IBay-1:
- Group = members
- User access via file sharing or user ftp = write group read everyone
- Public access via web or anonymous ftp = entire internet (no password required)
- Execution of dynamic content (CGI, PHP, SSI): = Disabled
IBay-2:
- Group = everyone
- User access via file sharing or user ftp = write admin read group
- Public access via web or anonymous ftp = entire internet (no password required)
- Execution of dynamic content (CGI, PHP, SSI): = Disabled
I’ve tested my ports (Shields-Up from Grc.com) Just the FTP port is open (port 21).
However, both sites can be reached from the local network but can’t be reached from the internet. What did I do wrong ??

Assuming you didn't install in server only mode, does your ISP block port 80? Many do. Did you install it in PRIVATE or PUBLIC Server and Gateway? Private server will only allow the webserver to listen on the internal interface. Is your DNS setup properly with a DNS provider?

Hy Terry,
Thank you for your reply,
The server acts in Server and Gateway mode. I can't remember how I set it up, "private" or "public". How can I check this?
I've asked my ISP (Demon) if they block anything. They haven't answered yet.
From the internet I can look up my ip-adres by typing in my url. So I think the DNS is ok.

Well, I just checked on 5.5u6 and I don't see an easy way to determine weather it's running private or public. I guess you'll need to login via ssh or from the local console as "admin" and rerun the server configuration. When it gets to the server mode screen, make sure it's selected as "Public Server and Gateway-Dedicated", then reboot.

Hy Terry,
Thank you for your help. It was installed as an "Private server and gateway". I changed it and it works now for IBay-2. Do you have an idea why it is not working for IBay-1?
IBay-1:
- Group = members
- User access via file sharing or user ftp = write group read everyone
- Public access via web or anonymous ftp = entire internet (no password required)
- Execution of dynamic content (CGI, PHP, SSI): = Disabled

Hi,
I don't think Demon block anything, they certainly never used to. You paid your "tenner a month" and you got a dialup, fixed IP address, conection to do with what you like (within the law and AUP...).
Recently heard that they have started rejecting mail connections with badly formed HELO's. Anti Sobig.f or one of the recent common virus's.
Cheers
Dave.
