Title: Use sme as a gateway.. for several networks
Post by: Alex on August 28, 2003, 01:35:31 AM
I want to use the sme act as a gateway..

192.168.1.47 connected to a router 192.168.1.1
192.168.2.47 for wirless
192.168.3.47 for my neighbour´s net

how can i configure the ethernet cards/ routing??

the basic config is done... setting up the cards by ifocnfig/webmin, setting the ug
flag --- is anything "firewalling"??? no ping goes to another hosts...

i tried server only and gateway-mode (gateway only for routing between the
local c-class networks)...

what can i do?

Did you added 192.168.x.x as your local networks??

If I add another ethernet card, and to local network, do this two network can see each other?? as each network has access to the gateway and squid (and squidguard)??

I think I can limit the network speed on one network to 10 Mbps or I have to use a 10Mbps card (I don't know if I have one, but many 100Mbps one's??

Thanks!!

How did you do to have new networks accessing Internet?
Just adding new local networks?

I configured it by "local networks", but it works only by one
time - one config, Now it doesn´t work. I give it up.

The configuration of e-smith doesnt work fine. No debuuging
by route and netstat get any result. For gateway functions
the e-smith is not stable. E-smith is a very goog
standalone server with 2 nics - but no more. You should additional services like dns, "gatewaying" an other by additional server hardware and other *nix-systems. For a gateway i use openbsd. That works REALLY well!

When you did this setup, what was the default gateway for the second LAN?

For instance:
LAN 1: 192.168.10.x -- Gateway 192.168.10.1
LAN 2: 192.168.12.x -- Gateway 192.168.12.1 ? or 192.168.10.1
