Title: e-mail and Eudora
Post by: Henry on September 01, 2003, 03:44:21 AM
I just installed version 5.6. Back up to desk top, fresh install, restore from desktop.

Everything seems to be fine with the following exception.

Eudora 5.2.1 now will not save account passwords.

The mail comes through, but I have to enter the pw everytime

Is this a known issue? I did several searches to no avail.

I've checked the obvious stuff, mail servers, re-installation of Eudora, ect.

Any ideas?

Did you check the "forget password" check box in your Eudora?

I didn't change any setting in Eudora. The app worked fine until I upgraded to V5.6.
I was asking if anything in ver5.6 broke IMAP mail delivery and if there was a patch.

The remember password was the first setting I checked.

The new error message tells me that the SSL cert isn't valid and I need to add it to the list of valid certs. I'm at a loos and am thinking about going back to v 5.5 if I can find it.

The SSL certificates in SME are self-generated so they appear to not be "trusted" in browsers.  There is an entry in the faq (http://www.e-smith.org/faq.php3) that says:

"Some mail clients (such as Eudora 5.2) support encryption through STARTTLS when possible. However, it won't accept the self-generated certificate installed with SME Server version 5.6.

"In Eudora, go to Tools/Options/Checking Mail and change the option "Secure Sockets When Receiving" from the default of "If Available, STARTTLS" to "Never". You may need to exit and restart Eudora for this to take effect.

"If you encounter this issue with a mail client other than Eudora 5.2 please report this to faq@e-smith.com."

Thanks....

That was the exact information I was looking for.
I'll give that a try when I get home tonight.
