Title: It takes a long time to connect to the server
Post by: celtic_kiwi on September 01, 2003, 03:52:47 PM
I have a small home network with e-smith 5.6 as my gateway server. I have named the server jserv and it is on IP 192.168.1.1

When I connect using a Browser, FTP or using Putty (telnet) it takes ages to connect 10-15 seconds. This is on a local lan and it still takes ages either using the Name (JSERV) or the IP address.

Any reason for this.

Gavin

Oops, The IP connects immediately but the name will not. How can I set the name on my PC (Hosts File or something)

search for a hosts. on your windows machine and add a line for your server following the example.

in windows 2000/XP the path is

c:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc
