Title: Switch default gateway on loss of connection?
Post by: Dan on September 09, 2003, 08:40:54 PM
I have an SME server providing internet access via a leased line. I also have a broadband satellite. Is it possible for the server to detect a line failure and automatically switch it's default gateway so the satellite would take over?

Not after a complete failover solution - just the internet connection.

Interesting problem.  I think the high level steps would be:

First add a second IP address to your external NIC.
Second add a default route with a higher metric to the second IP address' default gateway.
