Title: problem with IPoA
Post by: Jinguo Zheng on October 20, 2003, 03:00:31 PM
I setup sme server between adsl modem router (which using IPoA with static ip address) and local network, all workstations access internet without any problems, but if i try to access the server-manager page with domain name instead of ip address, it is unable to resolve the local hostsname or domain name, so the internal email does't work either, because it doesn't know to solve address like (mail.mydomain.com) .

it you could tell how to solve it, it would very appriciated to me

thanks

Could be a problem in the router itself. Had a similar problem with a Linksys Firewall router not providing "local loopback". Could only access the server by PC name or local ip address. I finally got rid of it! Try changing firewall settings in router.

I suspect you provided a Master DNS Server address when configuring the server.  If you want the SME Server to resolve hostnames, including unpublished local hostnames, remove the master DNS Server setting.

The Master DNS Server setting should remain empty unless you have a very specific reason to provide one (e.g. outbound DNS is blocked by the ISP).
