Title: i cant access a certain website
Post by: Arjay on October 20, 2003, 10:34:37 PM
hi guys,

im just wondering why i cant access www.wwe.com if ill make a direct connection from my host to them. it will just say, "error in connection" but if ill try to connect first from www.megaproxy.com to see if its online, sad thing, IT IS!

so why cant i access it myself? i already tried deleting all offline files, cookies, cache is my squid and even ive even put it in squid direct-connect websites (squid properties).

i also tried to use mozilla 1.5 and even mozilla firebird, but now worked.

i need help and answers for this if anyone know how to fix it.

if ill look at /var/log/messages, theres no any errors there

Hi Arjay,

This sounds like a problem I am having with quite a large number of sites running SME 5.6. It all started exactly at the same time even though they are using different ISPs.

Some sites will come up, some will not. Trying to ping those addresses directly from SME itself fails as SME cannot resolve the names.

As a temporary workaround, I ran SME's configuration again and set the Master DNS server to the ISPs DNS server. This allowed SME (and the workstations behind it) to resolve names now and those sites that will not come up before now will.

I have not been able to pinpoint the exact source of the problem yet (might be external since it is too much of a coincidence that so many geographically separated SME servers all stopped working at the same time ! I got phone calls within minutes of each other from clients reporting issues).
