I have a problem using e-smith with my ADSL cnx. In france our only ADSL provider (France Telecom) is using PPTP in order to connect my e-smith box to my ISP.
using a "classic" linux setup, the connexion is made entering "pptp 10.0.0.138" (which is the static IP of my Alcatel Speed Touch Home ADSL modem) as root.
How could I make e-smith working with that f**cking PPTP protocol ???

Frank,
PLEASE WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE! That last line was not necessary.
Lets try to be professional at all times.
Try the "search" for "pptp". We have discussed this issue many times,
with recommended solutions.

Hey, it's a free world - well, OK, not in France, and not in the USA, but you know what I mean. And how would *you* describe the PPTP protocol? I think he's pretty close :-)

At the moment there is no easy solution for Frank. There are some patches to add support for PPTP, and the Coyote linux router includes PPTP support, but I think for incoming connections, not to support a single outgoing connection via a misguided ISP.
Frank, make sure that you let your ISP know how misguided they are. And speak to your local Linux user group for technical advice about how to connect to that ISP using linux. It can probably be done, and if it can be done with RedHat, it can be done with e-smith with a little effort. See http://www.e-smith.org/custom/ for advice on making custom changes to the e-smith server and gateway configuration system.

Charlie

Frank,
I have the same problem as you have, I live in Belgium and I've received the same router from my ISP! The only thing I did was installing E-smith as SERVER ONLY, it works great. If you want I tell you how you could change the password of your router so you could changes/add some port rules!
Eddy,
