Title: W2k Domain Login
Post by: Paul Andersen on October 24, 2003, 04:02:31 AM
I have SME 5.6, fully updated with latest patches etc (I think) and a W2k SP4 Professional as one of the work stations.

The W2K workstation is able to access the server via Workgroup using any SME recognised username and password, however, when I try to join the Domain via My Computer using any combination of these usersnames & passwords I get an error "The credentials supplied conflict with an existing set of credentials".

What am I doing wrong? what needs to be "tweaked" and where? to allow this workstation to join the Domain.

I have searched these forums and although there are similar problems posted I can't recognise a solution to my problem specificlly.

See

Ther are explicit details for adding W2K workstations in the section titled
How to add a Windows 2000 computer to the domain

We upgrade the Windows 2000 to SP4 and applied all the recommended security patches and afterwards our workstation would not connect to the domain. Reverting to SP3 and and security patches prior 2003 connection to domain was fine.

Anybody know what Microsoft have done in these updates and how to fixit.

I got the "conflicting credentials" message until I ensured the machine has NO shares on the server.

Type "net use"   in a dos box for a list, and disconnect them all.
