I have been able to update to Samba 3.0 on SME 6.0B3.

As some dependencies were not met witht he unmodified SME 6.0B3, I had to install some other RH7.3 RPMs:

cups-libs-1.1.14-15.i386.rpm
libtiff-3.5.7-2.i386.rpm
htmlview-2.0.0-1.noarch.rpm
cups-1.1.14-15.i386.rpm
samba-3.0.0-2_rh73.i386.rpm

All are available from www.rpmfind.com (use versions compiled for RH7.3).

This was done on an up-to-date SME 6.0B3 version.

I hope this helps.

Serge

Hi all,

We have a production server at work 5.6u5 which we have upgraded to samba 3.0 with no problems, the rpms you need can be found at:

http://www.watson-trant.com/downloads/e-smith/samba3/

We have performed such an upgrade twice now, went smoothly both times.

Martin.

hmm I like the docs better...there are some changes in the smb.conf files...
Did you run testparm on the conf file?

Hi all,

Yes, we have run testparm on the server and yes, there are some differences there, however we are using custom templates to suit our own particular circumstances (networked MS/Access databases) and find that the increase in performance over previous Samba versions is quite dramatic. The server in question is now being used in a production environment with 50+ users.

Regards,

Martin.
