Title: pppoa woes
Post by: Paul Morgan on December 06, 2003, 08:48:41 AM
I have just changed isp's from a very stable adsl connection (over 12 months) with Telsta (Aus)  to a local isp. I connect OK to the new isp and run great for 24 hours then loose connection.  My new isp tells me I should be using pppoa. Is this possible. Your all legends - thanks in advance.

Paul, E-smith doesn't support pppoa out of the box and from what I read pppoa would be a bit tricky to get working. Who is your ISP? Are you currently using pppoe and if so could you  post the section of your log where it drops the connection. What sort of modem are you using?

Hi Paul

my provider has the same strategy:
all users are dropped at least every 24 hours.

my SME5.6U5 has no problem with it.
if SME recognises the loss of connection it reconnects, gets a new IP-adress and all is fine again.

p.s. logfiles will be helpful anyway

cheers klaus
