Post by: Dalton on December 09, 2003, 03:45:46 PM
After install from scratch a SMS 5.5 server for admin purposes i need the password for root. In any step of the install process the program requires the input for the password: I assume that is provided whit a default password, someone know wich is ?

The password which you are asked for during install is the root password that you typed.

There is no default password!

If you dont know the password because you couldnt remember what you set then at command line type...

init 1

and wait...

then type

passwd

Enter your new password for root

Then its saves data now type...

init 7

Now your back at login prompt

It does ask you to set a password...

What happens is you boot off cd installs and reboots, take CD out and it will bootup as normal then when its loads the bootstrap the first page it asks for is the password then asks you to confirm password.

Hope this is clearer

Its the same as you did in 4.x - that you would do in 5.x they work the same way.

What is your exacty problem? You cant log in? if so they following the steps I posted in the first place will sort that out!

During the installation of 5.1, it doesn't ask for a password for the root acount

However, it does ask you to set the password for the admin account

The root password is set to be the same as this password

Hope this helps
