Hi there (again),
Before I explain my problem concerning my E-smith configuration, is there somebody who is using a Flowpoint 2025 ADSL router together with E-smith (installed as gateway). If yes, how did you manage it to get it working??? As server I can let it working just perfectly, but as gateway I just can't get connected to my provider? Is it possible to eliminate my Flowpoint 2025, I don't want to use it!!!

If your ISP uses PPPoE for ADSL (quite likely), you can add contributed
RPMs to make it work directly with the e-smith server.
See the news items on www.e-smith.org

The news items states that:
To activate these RPMs, you need to first configure the system for dialup mode - this sets the Username and Password - then configure the system for dedicated mode - this configures the ethernet interface. When you reboot your system it should connect successfully to your supplier.
Why do I have to set an username and a password, I do have a fixed IP address!!! Dialup mode??? Is it possible that I have an ADSL connection with fixed IP address without PPPoE??? If yes, why doesn't the gateway part of my E-smith box doesn't work??? Can't I connect my ADSL Alcatem modem directly to my E-box (short for E-smith box), that is, get rid of my Flowpoint 2025?
TIA,
Eddy

Eddy,
Yes, that's right, you may have an ADSL connection with static address without PPPoE... That's PPTP instead (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) as it can be guessed by the use of the Alcatel ADSL modem and the Flowpoint router. And it effectively requires a Login/Password to authenticate yourself to your provider (as with PPPoE by the way), it has nothing to do with your static address...
I'm in the almost the same situation here in France where France Telecom used PPPTP to provide us with ADSL....
Unfortunately, E-smith doesn't support being a PPTP client right now !!!
So forget about using it as gateway, at least until someone provides PPTP support...

Man! It about time for some STANDARDS in the DSL world. Every darn ADSL supplier
is doing the cheap-n-quick dance. This PPPoE crap is giving me a headache.
Its really unnecessary. Like a modem, a DSL router should be a universal box.
This is one of the downsides of open competition. I am happy for a Covad service & a simple to setup FLOWPOINT 2200 router. Piece-o-cake!
